Wedding Photography_Boturich Castle_Loch Lomond
I was at a wedding second shooting for Graham Carnie at Boturich Castle on the banks of Loch Lomond recently. It was a very bright sunny day but a little cold and I began with photographing the groom and his ushers at lunch near the Trossachs National Park.
However the images below are in the marquee at Boturich Castle and I wanted to create a shallow dept of field with a wide viewing angle and avoiding the extreme perspective effect of a wide angle lens. This is a bokeh panorama made popular by New York wedding photographer Ryan Brenizer and enables a telephoto point of view using 30 images without the need to go a long distance from the table, which was not possible here.
Above is an interesting alternative to Wedding Cake, a selection of fine cheeses.

Keeping Fit Cycling in Scotland
Photographing Bonamy and Naa Shika cycling on Roslin Path, Midlothian. We experimented with a slow shutter speed and off camera flash, the weather wasn't great but that didn't stop us.
I think poor weather makes me more creative with ideas. Needless to say cycling is a great way to keep fit and get around.

Scottish Portrait Photography
Photographing portraits in the Scottish countryside. It is a rare thing to get such good summer weather in Scotland so I am making most of the opportunity to practice ideas for portrait photos. here my model assistant is dressed in a Scottish fashion theme, styled by Claire. Keeping portrait photography techniques simple is the best formula for successful images. Just natural light and a reflector for a wonderful beauty light.

Portrait Photography In a Midlothian Garden
I am making the most of the current warm weather we are having in Scotland. This time working on fashion portrait ideas with my photography assistant in a garden near Loanhead, Midlothian. Always fun to practice image making techniques that will be useful for portrait and wedding events, so more of the panorama montages.
Again the best type of lighting for a flattering portrait is back lighting and a soft fill from a reflector or off camera flash for a punchy image.

Wedding Photography Ideas
I have been working on wedding photography ideas recently using an exciting trendy new creative panorama technique for creating images on location in a Midlothian garden near Edinburgh. So you can see beautiful images can be made in very little space, just a little bit of imagination and planning.
Here my sister and I have gone for the idea of a black wedding dress and veil for a unique wedding concept, helped by the unusually sunny Scottish weather.
I think that back lighting in photographs has a flattering slimming effect for interested brides. A gold reflector was used to give the pictures a warm glow on my niece Bonamy.
It is great fun experimenting with ideas which can help you with your wedding planning and you will know that your photos will have the wow factor.

Here are some more photos of Bonamy using the panorama technique known as the Brenizer Method. This kind of photography requires so much practice because it is anything but straight forward and needs so much concentration. The idea is to make a large canvas with a wonderful bokeh using a narrow area of sharp focus and a wide angle of view.
You should try out such a portrait session you will have so much fun as my model here did, I guarantee your images will be flattering and you will have something special to keep.

Engagement Portait Photographer Edinburgh
Edinburgh has some fabulous locations throughout the city centre for environmental style portraits. Impressive architecture both in the New Town and the Old part of the city such as the Royal Mile, creates a unique backdrop for your engagement portraits.
A few days ahead of Lea and David's April wedding in Edinburgh city centre, we met up for an engagement portrait photo session, this is an ideal opportunity to break the ice, and yes it was a very cold day too. David was uneasy about getting photographed, not so unusual, so the session is a great confidence booster for the up coming wedding. I think that when a couple see how good they look in professional photographs, it makes my work so much less stressful.
I wanted to use the photo session to experiment with new techniques such as panorama montage, which allows me to get a wide view using a 50mm lens and shoot 6 to 30+ images to build the final picture with a WOW factor.
Please go to my website for more information and to make a booking.

Swiss Couple -Edinburgh Wedding Destination
A Kiss For His Bride |
Evelyne and Fabian from Switzerland chose Scotland for wedding in the merry month of May. Although they planned to marry at Letham House the venue was not available on their date, so they married at Dalkeith Registry. They had a German speaking translator for the civil ceremony which lasted about half an hour. Then we began with some photos outside the garden outside the office. Luckily the weather smiled on us and we had some warmish sunshine for the rest of the afternoon even though winter wanted to remain a bit longer. Obviously communication was a little tricky and my German was a little rusty we coped well and the photographs say it all. Before leaving I was given a huge bag of Swiss Chocolate. Danke Ewi und Fabian.
