The Set of "World War Z" in Glasgow City

A small piece of the USA dressed the streets of Glasgow city centre for the filming of Brad Pitt's new film"World War Z". It was interesting to see George Square transformed into a part of Philadelphia dressed with all the details of a US city, even painting out the yellow lines from the roads.

Engagement Portait Photographer Edinburgh

Edinburgh has some fabulous locations throughout the city centre for environmental style portraits. Impressive architecture both in the New Town and the Old part of the city such as the Royal Mile, creates a unique backdrop for your engagement portraits.
A few days ahead of Lea and David's April wedding in Edinburgh city centre, we met up for an engagement portrait photo session, this is an ideal opportunity to break the ice, and yes it was a very cold day too. David was uneasy about getting photographed, not so unusual, so the session is a great confidence booster for the up coming wedding. I think that when a couple see how good they look in professional photographs, it makes my work so much less stressful.
I wanted to use the photo session to experiment with new techniques such as panorama montage, which allows me to get a wide view using a 50mm lens and shoot 6 to 30+ images to build the final picture with a WOW factor.

Swiss Couple -Edinburgh Wedding Destination

A Kiss For His Bride

Evelyne and Fabian from Switzerland chose Scotland for wedding in the merry month of May. Although they planned to marry at Letham House the venue was not available on their date, so they married at Dalkeith Registry. They had a German speaking translator for the civil ceremony which lasted about half an hour. Then we began with some photos outside the garden outside the office. Luckily the weather smiled on us and we had some warmish sunshine for the rest of the afternoon even though winter wanted to remain a bit longer. Obviously communication was a little tricky and my German was a little rusty we coped well and the photographs say it all. Before leaving I was given a huge bag of Swiss Chocolate. Danke Ewi und Fabian.

Rachel and Richard’s -Edinburgh Wedding Photography

Rachel and Richard from London, were married at Canongate Kirk on the Royal Mile and their reception held at The New Club on Princes Street. They needed two professional photographers and my name was kindly recommended by a friend to be their Edinburgh wedding photographer and my second was Paul Bock who captured the documentary photographs of the groom, best man and ushers the Doric where they had their lunch, then guest arrivals at the Cannongate Kirk.
I met Richard at Tigerlily early in the morning for my planned still life photo of the wedding rings, which were designed by Rachel. I thought it best to get this done early because of the time pressure of the wedding day and creative ring photos can be tricky to do quickly.

Soon after I headed off for the bridal preparations at her family home, and Richard informed me that his bride will probably ready by the time I arrived. Ok he was pretty much right about that. I expected the usual mayhem and panic, but the bride to be was calm and collected so I began documenting her pink shoes and her designer wedding gown, before photographing Edinburgh make up artist Sharon Duncan at work adding final touches to Rachel and her bridesmaids. I think a good professional make up artist can really take the pressure off the bridal party and make all the difference to the impact of album photography and you will have all eyes on you on your wedding day. Soon after taking some formal portraits including father and mother.

Documentary wedding photography is about telling a story of your day
After an interesting trip in the boot of the Taxi, I waited at Canongate Kirk for the wedding car and soon after Rachel arrived, she stepped out wearing her fabulous Johanna Hehir designed wedding dress, with a flowing detailed veil, borrowed from the mother of the bride. She received good will cheers from the gathering on lookers as she entered the church for the wedding ceremony. Canongate Kirk was also the venue of the Royal wedding of Zara Philips and has one of the brightest interiors which is perfect for wedding photographers.

After the ceremony we moved on Paul followed the guests to the reception, whilst the newlyweds, family and bridesmaids walked to nearby secluded gardens for the formal portraits.
Although strong sunlight is fantastic it can be tricky for portrait pictures, however the walled garden was great location for the formal group images and using a large white reflector made good use of the natural light.
